Resolutions for Students

New Year’s resolutions can be pivotal times in one’s life. Taking a step back to reflect before continuing on with our goals can guide us for the living of a better, fulfilled life. If you are currently studying or working in school, this article is for you. I have also included some new year blessing and quotes that I feel will inspire your New Year’s Resolution.

Why students fail their resolutions

Many students make resolutions at the beginning of a new year. But most of them fail. Resolutions have a long history, going back to the Roman Empire. The Romans would write down their goals and display them in public, so everyone could see whether they were keeping their promises to themselves.

The Roman idea took root in the West, where we stopped writing our resolutions on large sheets of stone and started writing them on small sheets of paper. We have been doing that every year since then, but for some reason we have been less successful than the Romans were.

Maybe it’s because we keep making the same resolution: lose weight, get organized, find a boyfriend or girlfriend, become more outgoing. It’s like believing that if you stare at your computer screen while holding up two fingers and chanting “double double,” your screen will really double in size.

How can we break through our pattern of failure?

Here are some things that can help.

Write down why you want to do the thing. If you’re trying to start a new habit, write down what you hope to get out of it. If your goal is to write a novel, explain why you want to write it.

Make it concrete. What will success look like? How will you know when you’ve succeeded?

Imagine yourself doing the thing. This seems simple, but it’s surprisingly powerful. Think through exactly how you’ll do the thing, even if it feels silly or uncomfortable. Try to give yourself specific instructions for how to proceed, including the exact steps you’ll take–and especially any obstacles you’re likely to encounter and how you’ll deal with them.

Compare that image of yourself succeeding at the thing with someone who is actually succeeding at that thing. What are their actions? How are they thinking? What are they doing differently from you?

What are some New Year’s Resolutions I can make? That is a question you asked yourself at some point during this past month, wasn’t it?

Students set bigger goals for their morning routine compared to what they have time for

New Year’s resolutions are popular with students, as they can be with anyone who is realizing that there is room for improvement in their lives. One of the most common New Year’s resolutions for students is to improve their time management skills. This often manifests as a desire to make a morning routine, and usually includes things like improving study habits and waking up early to exercise and study.

Anyone who is familiar with the typical student lifestyle knows that this is easier said than done. Most students don’t have a lot of free time, and who really has time to wake up at 5 AM just to go running?

It’s important to keep your goals small and manageable. If you feel like you will never be able to reach a big goal, you will be demotivated. Instead, break the big goal into smaller goals and focus on achieving those smaller goals first. That way, your motivation increases as your progress increases.

Setting goals doesn’t guarantee that they will be reached; however, setting goals can help you achieve what you want in life. Goals provide a structure for the future and motivate you to reach those specific targets. Without goals, there is no direction. Without direction, motivation decreases and the likelihood of success is very low.

Setting goals may seem simple; however, if not done correctly, it can lead to failure or an overwhelming amount of stress and pressure. It is important to set goals that are both challenging and realistic: challenging enough to push you out of your comfort zone but realistic enough so that they can be achieved within a certain timeframe.

Additionally, one should have a plan on how to achieve these goals so they feel confident that they will be met with success.
